Line Weight
The ultimate all-round floating line for trout with ultra-slick performance.
  • Long head for ultimate casting control
  • Built with RIO's exceptionally slick, durable SlickCast
  • Front biased weight to load rods at close range
  • Taper design to cast flies between #22 and #2

The RIO GOLD has a revolutionary taper design that gives incredible loop stability at distance, a unique profile that allows a rod to load at close range and a front taper that delivers perfect presentation of flies between sizes #22 and #2.

The RIO Gold is the ultimate all-round, floating line for the trout fly fisher and is built with "MaxFloat Tip" technology, RIO's proprietary tip coating formula that floats more than twice as high as regular line tips, without any increase in diameter.

In addition, this line is built with SlickCast, creating the slickest, most durable coating on the market—producing the least amount of friction ever measured in a fly line.

  • DualTone- Marks the sweet spot of a fly line by providing an obvious color change in the line at the sweet spot.
  • EasyID - RIO’s printed line marking system that allows anglers to quickly and easily identify each line.
  • Front Welded Loop- A neat, bulletproof loop welded at the front of the fly line for fast rigging.
  • Back Welded Loop - A neat, bulletproof loop welded at the end of the fly line for fast rigging to backing.

Hi guys I haven't had the chance to fish the fly line yet but am happy to give you a review when I do! I also own a rio aqualux midge tip as well and again havent had the chance to fish it either!

I chose to buy rio fly lines because they are the best that money can buy and I want the best!

I start casting again in the next few weeks or so when the season opens with the Salisbury and district angling club and I'll give you a review then. I bid every body many tight lines and will contact you soon!

Time for a change

Having a fortnight in South Uist might seem like an angler's dream but May/June '23 produced some challenging conditions, unbroken sunshine making the water warm enough for a bath but with a cold north wind. Fishing one of my favourite lochs from the north bank, I elected for a sink tip, hoping to get down and away from the sun. With the wind behind me I managed to get a good line out. The plan worked and I had two lovelr trout of 2lbs and 1.75lbs, both returned and told to be more careful next time. Two days later on another of my favourite lochs I thought I would repeat the process. This time, however, the wind had dropped away completely and my sink tip was landing like a heap of knitting. Time for a change. I took out my ancient multiplier fly reel with its Rio Gold #7 WF floater. I tied on an 18 foot two fly cast of fluora, again hoping to get down if the line behaved. The Rio Gold shot out straight but more impressive was the way the cast kept heading out following the direction of the line. Counting down to 24 before a figure of eight retrieve and I was into the first of my three 1lb+ trout in 90 minutes before the 'taxi' arrived! Could I have done it without my Rio Gold? Easy answer - no....
