Fast action but still enough give in the tip to play a salmon, this rod is very nice to use, light and more power than the more usual action salmon rods people use nowadays with skagit and scandi lines. I caught a salmon with it in the first hour of use!! (on the river Dee near Aboyne) It’s expensive, and a warning in the pack said that even a slight dink on a hard surface could weaken it may be true of all graphite rods but reminded me that i need to be careful with such a costly bit of kit. Gamefish were reliable and prompt as always and I am a returning customer. Thanks guys.
Delivery earlier than suggested, always good. Very well packaged. Exciting opening the layers. First impressions of a very well crafted rod, lovely cork on the handle, great finish. I really like the colour and the fittings.
How does it fish? Well, I was blown away. I have used Sage double handed rods for years. I am a reasonably competent caster. This rod outperforms any of my previous rods. It is light and easy to handle but has an unexpected steely authority which I adore. When I move my hands during the cast, the rod immediately does what is required. The Sage One, which I love, had to think about it for a moment! I can definitely cast further, and more accurately. There is less sideways wobble, less dip in the loops, and tighter loops. With a 55 ft 9wt Carron, I was casting in excess of 35 yards on better casts, which I have never done before. The other thing I didn't expect was that if a cast was suboptimal, sometimes it went out better than I'd expected, as if rescued by the rod. It is certainly a fast rod, in comparison to the Sage One, but it doesn't have the unyielding stiffness of some of the new rods I've tried, or an older Hardy Sintrix I tried some years ago. Overall, I am completely thrilled, and my expectations are well exceeded. I can hardly wait to get to the river to give it another go later today!
